Basic Q&A

What is TrackFlip?
Axis Digital's TrackFlip service converts all of your CDs to MP3, saving you tons of time and tedious effort. We free your music from being confined on CD, making your entire collection more portable, manageable and accessible than you ever dreamed it could be!

What are the advantages of using TrackFlip?
Time Saving: Converting as few as 50 CDs can take as much as 9 hours - 200 can take a week!

Practical: Besides saving a ton of time, we deliver your music on DVD and optional hard disk drive

Quality: State-of-the-art hardware and software guarantee the highest quality digital music conversion

Convenient:Pick-up and delivery at your doorstep with almost no time or effort on your behalf

Managability:Your music is perfectly organized and tagged

Backup & Archival: CD conversion gives you a perfect digital backup of your entire music collection

Is CD conversion expensive?
No. With rates as low as $1.00 per CD you can convert your entire CD collection for the cost of a nice dinner for two. Think how much more your time is worth.

Do I get my CDs back?
Of course. They are returned to you along with your MP3 music library.

Is this legal?
Yes. You purchased the CD, therefore you have the right to listen to the music. You and you alone are permitted to listen to it however you want. It becomes illegal when you share or distribute your digital music files (MP3s). The conversion form that is completed when we pickup your CDs requires your agreement to terms that you will not share or distribute your MP3s in any way.

What's required to use my MP3 music library?
 • A PC running MacOS or Windows
 • A DVD-ROM Drive
 • A USB 2.0 port if you order an external hard drive (USB 1.1 is compatible, but it will be very slow)

Ordering

Should I pack my CDs prior to pickup?
No. We'll bring transit containers for your CDs. Just have all your CDs together in one place.

What if something happens to my CDs?
We make every effort to return your CDs in the same condition we took them in. Here's some of the ways we protect your CDs:

 • Secure transit containers
 • Technicians transport and handle your CDs
 • Carpeted floors in our processing facility
 • Padded work surfaces

In the unlikely event something should occur, here is our policy:

Damage: There is only so much responsibility we can take for damaged CDs. Everyone knows how easily CDs scratch. (One reason MP3s are so great!) Because we have no way to guarantee the condition of each CD we take, there is no way to tell exactly when damage occurs. However, if a CD is damaged during processing we will reimburse you up to $12.00 per disc. If we damage a CD, we will pay for it. Furthermore, we keep a conversion report to track any CDs that are damaged (scratched, skipping, unreadable) or any other problems encountered during processing.

Loss: If the number of CDs returned to you is less than what was counted at the time of pick-up, we will reimburse you up to $12.00 per disc.

How long does pick-up take to complete?
About 10 minutes per 100 CDs.

When will my order be delivered?
Most orders are turned around in five to seven business days.

Can CDs be picked up in a binder/carrier?
Absolutely, as long as it is in good condition, closes properly and provides adequite protection for your CDs.

Can I drop my CDs off?
This is not currently offered. However we are forming partnerships with local retailers in New York City and Hoboken, NJ. You will be able to drop off and pick up your orders at those locations. If you know of a local retailer who should offer TrackFlip Drop services, please let us know here.

If you're a local retailer interested in offering TrackFlip Drop service, please complete our partner form.

Technical Questions

What settings are used when converting my music?
Default settings for TrackFlip CD to MP3 conversion:
• Constant Bit Rate (CBR)
• 224kbps (128kbps is widely considered CD quality)

Does TrackFlip support Macintosh and Windows?
Absolutely. DVDs can be burned in one format, the other or even hybrid. External hard drives also work with both platforms and connect via USB and Firewire (IEEE 1394).

Does TrackFlip offer other conversion settings?
We do. Just email trackflip@axisdigital.com and let us know what you need. (Due to filesizes associated with some formats, hard drive storage may be required.)

Should I get a hard drive? Why? What's available?
A hard drive provides many great advantages for MP3 storage:
• Very high capacity
• Portable
• Always-on and connected to your computer
• Useful backup of your music

Our smallest hard drive - 120GB - can hold approximately 30,000 songs. Once it's loaded, chances are you'll still have plenty of room for more music, pictures, video or any other data.

We carry 120GB, 200GB and 300GB external hard drives. They are aluminium-cased and are compatible with USB 2.0 and Firewire (IEEE 1394).
